Recently I was invited along to the launch of Sterling Furniture’s Lookbook. Now for those of you who haven’t heard of Sterling Furniture, Sterling is a furniture store with nine showrooms across Scotland. Its Tillicoultry store near Stirling is the UK’s largest furniture store.
Living in Scotland, as I do, Sterling is a brand well known to me. For those of you who don’t live near a store have a look at their website www.sterlingfurniture.co.uk.
Due to lack of time I haven’t been in a Sterling Furniture store for some time so I was surprised to hear that they now sell a good range of home accessories, some clothes, and also have a food hall.
The home accessories bit interests me in particular, as I like to use accessories and to find matching items. Having them all in the one store against the backdrop of gorgeous furniture does help.
There are six Lookbook looks, each inspired to various extents by catwalk fashions. Sterling Furniture describe them as being “influenced by a host of international fashion designers from Dolce and Gabbanna to Dior, Channel and Ralph Lauren”.
Look 1: La Belle Maison
This is based on an eighteenth century style of furniture with pale colours, delicate décor and sophistication. As someone who loves peace and harmony in the bedroom I love this style. I love light colours in the bedroom but also loved the finish of the furniture.
I also have a thing about chests of drawers and the higher the chest of drawers and the more drawers there are the better, which is why I loved the Ivory 8 drawer chest for £749.99
Look 2: 50s Retro
This retro look features shades of yellow and green, retro patterns and smooth curves. I don’t think the picture does it justice.
The couches look fabulously comfortable and my favourite was these orion hanging lamps in red, white and black for £65.
Look 3: Paradise Island
This was one of my favourites with the contrast between the white couches and the bright accessories. Inspiration comes from the South Pacific’ tropical climates, its pristine beaches and luscious rainforests.
I loved this quirky metal lantern for £36.
Look 4: Heather Bracken
This takes inspiration from the company’s Scottish heritage but without going too much towards the shortbread tin image. In fact not really at all. The tartan blends in well and there is a lovely mix of purples and greens. With checks and tartans being on this year’s catwalk the Heather Bracken look mirrors this.
I love the wicker fishing basket for £39 which sits neatly in the corner.
Look 5: Harvard
With teenagers sporting tops with American flags and high street shops such as Topshop selling Yankie inspired clothing, you can see the thought behind this one. But at the same time it has a huge Ralph Lauren feel about it.
The great thing about this look is that it is easy to add to. Items such as this stars and stripes cushion for £21 can really have a big impact.
Look 6: La Dolce Vita
This is the final look, inspired of course by this year’s Dolce and Gabbana collection. This look is absolutely gorgeous. I love the stylish furniture combined with the plush textiles.
If I had to choose a favourite, it would be this gramophone with horn for £149.
