Whether you’ve got wooden floors, tiled floors or carpet, adding a rug to a room can add more colour, warmth and texture.
If you shop wisely, rugs can be an affordable purchase. We’ve been rug shopping, so here are some ideas for rugs for your house.
1. Roses rug at Laura Ashley
This roses rug is very much in the traditional style of Laura Ashley. It is 100% cotton and very traditional in style with its pink flowers and heavy pink border. This is very much a living room rug or if you have a large bedroom it might fit in there. At the moment the rug is reduced to £124.20 from £230.
2. Multi coloured circular rug
If you are looking for something a little bit different you might like this multi coloured circular rug. It is made of 100% leather with the front cow skin and the back suede. It is a fantastic array of colours and would brighten up any room. Not on the High Street suggest that it could be a good rug for a children’s room or as a statement piece for a dull room. We think it might look good in a games room, or a less formal living room. The rug costs £499.
3. Nomadic multi colour rug
There is something quite hypnotic about this nomadic multi colour rug. It is hand tufted with a bohemian style circular design which draws the eye in. Heal’s sells the rug, which is 150cm by 230cm for £375.
4. Highlander shaggy rug
At this time of year when it is cold outside this Highlander shaggy rug is very appealing. The rug from the Real Rug Company costs £69.50 and looks like the type of rug you would pick to have beside a warm fire, where you could sit and enjoy the heat. The pile is deep – most of it is 10cm, and it is a mixture of three different shade of grey, all from New Zealand wool.
5. Amelia Flatweave rug
As well as the traditional we have included some modern designs in our top ten. This Amelia flatweave rug from Rugs and Things follows a postage theme, with its black, beige and red design. It comes in three sizes, ranging in price from £53 to £99 and is made of polypropylene.
6. Hopscotch Rug
Next sells this simple hopscotch rug for between £35 and £50 depending on the size. It is very much a rug for a little girl’s room with a simple hospscotch pattern on a pink background.
7. Mosaic rug
Another hypnotic looking rug is this mosaic rug which is £260 from Habitat. It is made from hand hooked wool with dense loop pile and too many colours to mention.
8. Pink fringed rug
This pink fringed rug costing £40 is a simple striped pink rug, made of recycled fibres. The White Company picture it in a child’s bedroom, and you could imagine it having a calming effect when combined with other similar shades. But it would also fit in to a bathroom. The fact that it is machine washable means that you don’t need to worry about children spilling anything on it.
9. Icelandic sheepskin rug
This Icelandic sheepskin rug is another great one for winter, and for putting in front of a log fire. The approximate size is 60cm by 100cm, although obviously that varies. At the moment Plumo are selling it reduced for £129.
10. Pari round rug
Graham & Green have chosen the perfect background on which to showoff this pari round rug which is made of felted wool. The striking turquoise and green colours on the white background look perfect against the white floorboards. The diameter is 149cm and the cost is £190.
