Shop Showcase: Top 10 home accessories from Design 55

Design 55 has some interesting home accessories for sale, some of which are quite unusual, others of which you just think would look good in the home. Here are 10 on our shopping list.

1. Champagne cork ice bucket

This champagne cork ice bucket is aptly designed. Made from sustainably sourced Portuguese cork, the strong and robust cooler is also 100% ice and water proof. It is 25cm high with a 20cm diameter and fits one standard sized 750ml champagne/cava bottle. The price of the champagne/cork ice bucket is £69.

2. Black and Blum James the bookend

This is from the Black and Blum range. James the bookend is used to hold books up. Measuring 19cm high, the rubber bookstop has a stainless steel plate attached to his foot, making him strong enough to hold up a number of books. He is available in black, lime green, red, orange or blue and costs £15.50.

3. Alessi Birillo cotton wool pad dispenser

Now buying a cotton wool dispenser has never crossed our minds until we spotted this Alessi Birillo cotton wool pad dispenser. And suddenly it makes a lot of sense. The acrylic dispenser has a sliding lid and is 24cm long.  Available in white or in black it costs £19.

4. Alessi storage jars with hanging man

These Alessi storage jars with hanging man will brighten up the pantry, adding a bit of character to the kitchen. Available in two sizes and six different colours, the glass storage jars have polycarbonate lids. The price is £15.50.

5. Gubi Pedera PD1 table lamp by Barba Cosini

This Gubi Pedera PD1 table lamp by Barba Cosini is quite an unusual lamp, mainly because it is made of steel. First designed in 1955, surprisingly it does still have a contemporary, modern feel about it. Measuring 34 cm high, and with a 13cm diameter, it comes in  choice of three colours. The price is £139.

6. Volkswagon storage box

This is a great idea. Children’s bedrooms tend to be full of toys, so why not find a second use for some of them. The Volkswagon storage box children’s toy box costs £99. For that you get a van which stores toys and books. The MDF van comes flatpacked so you have to make it yourself, but is easy to slot together.

7. Alessi La Stanza dello Scirocco fruit bowl

This rather unusual fruit bowl is made from stainless steel and features squares linked together to form a geometric pattern. The Alessi La Stanza dello Scirocco fruit bowl is available in stainless steel, white or black, and costs £41.

8. Cabanaz metal tissue dispenser napkin holder

Once they are out of the packaging napkins have tendency to get crumpled. Which is why this 50s style Cabanaz metal tissue dispenser napkin holder makes sense. Available in red, blue or back, it costs £12.50.

9. Ebony scroll metalic silver fire screen

The ebony scroll metalic silver fire screen combines tradition with modernism. The price of this beautiful fire screen is £99.95.

10. Low wooden stool tea chest

MDF has been compressed to make this low wooden stool tea chest, priced at £25. It has a very unique look about it. Measurements are – height 42cm x width 30cm x depth 30cm.
