A bookend is more than just a piece of wood that keeps books from falling over. It is a statement about your taste in décor, and there is a fantastic range out there, to meet whatever your taste is. 1. Morph and Chas bookends

2. Classic Tea Caddy bookend
These classic tea caddy bookends are reduced from £32 to £19 at the moment, and are available from Oka. While some bookends are thick, and often take up the space of another book, these are slim, so useful if shelf space is limited.
3. Personalised bookends – Noah’s Ark design
Picture Proud sells personalised gifts and furniture. These Noah Ark design bookends are brightly decorated on a white background and would make a perfect gift for a child’s birthday or christening. Hand made and hand painted, the child’s name can be added to the front. Cost is £29.95 for the pair.
4. Wooden bookends
At first glance, these may look like basic bookends, but they’re very classy and extremely well made. most basic bookends out but at the same time they are very classy. Made from Pembrokeshire beech these wooden bookends are also available in other hardwoods – oak, ash, cherry, sycamore and elm. Each bookend is handfinished and wax polished. Jonathan Guest sells them in different sizes, according to your needs.
5. Globe Bookends French Finish bookends
These authentic globe bookends would look perfect with some old hard back books. The authentic looking brown globes sit on bronze mountings on French finished stands. They’re available from Wayfair.
6. Set of two black dog bookends
This set of two black dog bookends are pretty amusing looking. One has a sculpture of the front of a dog, the other has the sculpture of the back of the dog. Both sit on square stands. Debenhams sells the bookends – originally they were £28, but they’re currently reduced to just £8.40 for the pair.
7. Gruffalo Wooden bookends
For Julia Donaldson fans these wooden Gruffalo bookends would make a fantastic gift. They each have Gruffalo characters intricately painted on the front. The bookends cost £19.99 from Waterstones and are presented in a beautiful box.
8. Ollie Wise Owl bookends
These Dora Designs Ollie Wise Owl bookends are made of grey linen with black faux leather trim. They have big staring eyes, and look fantastic side by side. Kirkhale Gift Studio sell them for £16.50.
9. Handmade wooden rabbit bookends
These white wooden rabbit bookends come with a blue or pink ribbon, and are handmade from wood. They would look good in a room with white furniture or would make a beautiful, and very practical christening gift. They cost £28 per pair from Charlotte Macey Textiles.
10. Pair of bronze owl marble bookends
And finally, for those with more money to invest in great design and long-lasting bookends, Canonbury Antques sell this pair of bronze tawny barn owl bookends. The bronze owls stand proudly on black marble bases and together make a great collector’s piece. They would look great against the backdrop of some dark wood furniture.
