Afternoon tea cake stand

Here at Home Gems we love cake stands. Maybe even more than we love cakes! There’s something about these traditional looking stands that take us back to a time when afternoon tea was a daily ritual, with invited guests and cotton napkins.

And we’re not the only ones. Cake stands are easy to find nowadays, with prices to fit every budget. Here are ten of our favourites.

1. Michelangelo pedestal cake stand with dome by Luigi Bormioli

Isn’t this 11-inch Michelangelo pedestal cake stand with dome by Luigi Bormioli gorgeous? Costing £31.58 this is the kind you see in coffee shops and restaurants. Cooking.com suggests that you keep it on the sideboard during dinner for guests to see what they have to look forward to.

2. Poppy collection three tier cake stand

Here is one of the more traditional looking cake stands. The poppy collection three tier cake stand has three ceramic plates with a beautiful silver handle on top, for carrying it. The white plates are decorated with beautiful red poppies – a great buy for £9.99 from Dunelm Mills.

3. Gusta 50cm stainless steel cupcake stand

This is a great cupcake stand for displaying – either at a party or wedding, or even just in your own home. The Gusta 50cm stainless steel cupcake stand holds 18 cakes over three tiers and is 50cm high. Wayfair sells it for £21.02.

4. Finland Arabia Moomin cake stand

Finnish design house Iittala have created this cake stand that brings to life one of the classic Moomin designs by author Tove Jansson. Perfect for new and old Moomin fans alike. It’s £47 from John Lewis.

5. Red spot three tier cupcake stand

Here is one for cupcakes. The red spot three tier cupcake stand is a disposable stand, which holds 36-40 cupcakes. Windsor Crafts Ltd sells it for £4.95.

6. Mini cake stand

This mini cake stand from Marks and Spencers is very simple. And at £2.80 you can’t complain about the price. Standing at 5cm high and with a 12cm diameter it is perfect for a large sponge cake. Also it is dishwasher safe.

7.  Emma Bridgewater pink hearts three tiered cake stand

This Emma Bridgewater pink three tiered cake stand is sold for £69.99 from Cake Stand Land. The plates are hand-painted with beautiful pink hearts. The plates are 25cm, 20cm and 16cm.

8. Portmeiron botanic blue 2 tier cake stand

This porcelain Portmeiron botanic blue 2 tier cake stand is smaller than many cake stands, with only two plates – one 27cm, the other 21cm. Portmeiron sells it for £44. The beautiful pale blue is quite striking.

9. SK acrylic petit four stand round 6 tier

This one is a bit different from the others on our list. Not only is it designed for petit fours, it has six tiers. The acrylic stand has plates measuring from 31.5cm down to 10cm and the total height of the stand is 30.5cm. Squires Kitchen sells the SK acrylic petit four stand round 6 tier for £58.

10. Royal Grafton Malvern Vintage Floral three tiered cake stand

Made from English fine bone china, the Royal Grafton Malvern Vintage Floral three tiered cake stand is decorated with a colourful floral pattern and gold gilding. The plates are made in the Staffordshire Potteries by Royal Grafton. Cake Stand Heaven sells it for £48.
