Christmas decorations have changed hugely in the past 20 years. Not only are more of us decorating the outside of our houses, but more effort is put into decorating the inside. It’s often a special ritual to put up Christmas decorations – getting your decorations out of the loft and reminiscing over old favourites, listening to festive music or indulging in festive tipples, such as eggnog, as you decorate your home.
If you need some inspiration for new Christmas decorations, we’ve put together 10 fabulous Christmas ideas to get you started.
1. Christmas pudding cushion
Here is a cushion which is certainly a little bit different. The Chrismtas pudding cushion is made from super soft faux suede and features a picture of a Christmas pudding with the words ‘Good old fashioned plum pudding’ beneath it and Christmas pudding above. This is one Christmas decoration which you can snuggle up with on winter nights. You can buy the cushion for £34.99 from We Love Cushions.
2. Merry Christmas design place cards
We thought £2.15 was a good price for these Merry Christmas place cards from So Raise your Glasses. Each placecard is red with a white snowflake design and measures 3.5cm square.
3. Log t-light holder nativity scene
The log t-light holder nativity scene is made of birch and has a candle inside it. The nativity scene is intricately carved in the wood and the suggestion is that you place it on a window. You can buy it for £17 from The Orchard.
4. Wooden Advent train
This beautiful little advent train measures 14cm long x 7cm wide x 10.5cm high. A green Santa keeps you up to date on how long it is until Christmas. The price is £4.75 from Christmas Decor.
5. Lit Ho Ho Ho sign
One of our favourites from Next is this lit ho ho ho sign. Battery operated, the sign lights up the word and is another one that would fit nicely on a shelf.
6. Giant wobbly snowman
One modern trend in Christmas decorations is decorations which stand on their own – particularly large ones which the children love to run up to. This giant wobbly snowman is 90cm tall. Costing £65 from John Lewis, it is made from metal and can stand inside or out. What a fantastic welcome to your house.
7. Gingerbread decoration
The Christmas Boutique sells this gorgeous gingerbread decoration for £2.99, perfect for hanging on the Christmas tree. Six centimetres in diameter the muffin design has an iced finish and comes with a jute hanger. They also sell a Father Christmas and reindeer design at the same price.
8. Nativity set in a box
Amongst all the glitter, Santas and reindeers sometimes it is nice to include a nativity set – a traditional scene of the original Christmas story. East of India sells this nativity set in a box and it is available from Joanie’s Gifts. The set is handcrafted with Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus, as well as the three kings, and a few animals to complete the scene. The price for this nativity set is £14.99.
9. Set of 12 reindeer decorations
As ever Not on the High Street is full of great ideas. We like this set of twelve reindeer decorations priced at £12. Made of felt, and in four different colours, they are each 8cm tall and would look great for decorating shelves, fireplaces and windows.
10. Father Christmas Russian dolls
We do love Russian dolls, which is why this set of Father Christmas Russian dolls caught our eyes on the Not on the High Street website. The wooden dolls come boxed in a set of five with the largest one measuring 15.5 x 5.5cm. A child would love this, but equally so would us adults and it is a beautiful decoration.
